Lectern Bible is an iPhone app for reading Scripture out loud. It listens as you read and moves the page with your voice, one verse at a time.

Tap Read aloud. Today’s chapter is ready, or pick any chapter you like.
Each word fills in as you say it. At the end of a verse the page moves to the next. Nothing to tap.
Read to the last verse and the chapter is added to your progress, your plan and your streak.
A chapter counts only when every verse has been read aloud. There is no swiping to the end. If the page did not catch a verse, it says so and waits for you to read it again.
If a call or an alarm takes the microphone, tap Resume and carry on from the same verse. Stop partway through a chapter and your place is kept.
Choose a plan and each day’s portion is on the home screen: the Bible in a Year, the New Testament in 90 Days, the Psalms in 30, the Gospels in 40 or Proverbs in 31. Miss a day and the plan waits for you; it does not skip ahead.
Read a chapter aloud and the day counts. The app shows your week at a glance and what reading today would make your streak. A day is not lost until it is over.
Every chapter you read aloud fills in its book, and a ribbon marks the book you are in. One number at the top says how much of the Bible you have read in your own voice.
At the end of a chapter you see how long you read, how many verses, and your streak. You can share it as a picture: the chapter on a page, with the ribbon in its place.
Leave a chapter partway and next time you continue from the verse after the last one you read.

Your iPhone does not lock while you are reading aloud, so you never have to touch it.
Set the text to the size you read best. The page follows your iPhone’s light or dark appearance.
The text is in the app and your voice is recognized on the iPhone, once it has what it downloads the first time.
Nothing to sign up for, and nothing on the page but the text.
Speech is recognized on the device. Nothing you say is recorded or uploaded, and the app has no account to create. Read the privacy policy.
The first three chapters you read aloud are free, and reading the text silently is always free. After that, reading aloud is unlocked by a yearly or monthly subscription or a one-time purchase. There is no trial that turns into a charge.
